{"id":468,"date":"2018-03-31T12:09:33","date_gmt":"2018-03-31T12:09:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michalczinege.com\/?page_id=468"},"modified":"2025-10-16T11:15:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:15:36","slug":"colour-room","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/michalczinege.com\/?page_id=468","title":{"rendered":"Colour Room"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Site-specific painting installation, 2016<br>Part of the exhibition&nbsp;<em>5000 m<sup>2<\/sup><\/em>&nbsp;in the former Lappeenranta city theatre, Finland<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\u00a0<em>Colour Room\u00a0<\/em>I painted the entire space of what used to be a flower storage in the former Lappeenranta city theatre. The building was due for demolition after the exhibition. By counter-shading existing shadows in the space I turned some of them invisible to the eye. Erasing shadows was a way for me to metaphorically connect to the imminent destruction of the building. Shadows have a dual nature \u2013 they are gaps and absences, and at the same time they are indirect evidence of the existence of what causes them. Detecting painted-out shadows in\u00a0<em>Colour Room\u00a0<\/em>called for sharp vision or pure coincidence, as their alteration emerged only when coincided with the visitor\u2019s own
