Colour Room

Installation at 5000 m2, former Lappeenranta city theatre, Finland, 2016

The entire space was painted, and shadows in it were camouflaged to appear invisible.

The invisible shadows of objects are revealed as painted images only when an additional light source (such as a camera flash) is present or when an observer’s own shadow happens to overlap them. It takes not only a sharp sense of perception from the viewer, but even chance and happenstance to detect the absence and shift of shadows in the space.

The removal of shadows related to the demolition of the old theatre.
